A-FAN helps farmers—and the communities where they live.
Many Nebraska farmers look at modern livestock and poultry production as a way to sustain, grow and diversify their business, and to help maintain a traditional standard of living. However, regulations, legislation and other issues complicate these plans and often make it difficult for a farmer to chart a course for success alone.
That’s why A-FAN was created.
A-FAN works one-on-one with farmers who are interested in adding livestock to their business—or expanding an existing livestock operation. We assist farmers by connecting them with professionals who help them develop a livestock operation that not only complies with regulations but that is environmentally responsible and meets community expectations.
A-FAN helps farmers develop and maintain good relationships with neighbors and the community in which they live to foster greater acceptance and understanding of the importance and value of livestock production.
The goal of A-FAN is to support Nebraska’s livestock industry by encouraging individual farmers to:
Ensure environmental stewardship by employing the best management practices, sound science and appropriate technology to protect water and soil quality, reduce odor and comply with all regulatory standards.
Develop a sound business plan that increases their chances for success and creates the opportunity for the next generation of farm families.
Protect the quality of life in rural areas by helping farmers select the best site for the proposed operation and take into account the interests of the community and neighbors.
Encourage involvement with the community by sharing their intentions with neighbors and inviting dialogue with community leaders and residents.
If A-FAN is working with a farmer in your community, you can have confidence that the farmer is dedicated to doing things the right way.
